As the principal of Barnwell Middle School, it is my pleasure to welcome everyone to another amazing school year! We are excited to have our new and returning students in the building filling our halls and classrooms with energy and enthusiasm for learning. It is our mission at Barnwell to make every child feel welcomed and connected to the school community so that they can succeed socially, behaviorally and academically. We are fortunate to have a hard-working and dedicated faculty and staff who work long hours to help our students reach their goals and prepare them to be successful in high school and life. Our teachers work to create a safe learning environment for all of our students and implement a variety of engaging lessons and activities that are based in research. Our goal is for students to be academically ready for the rigors of high school while understanding their roles and responsibilities in their community.

As a District focused on continuous improvement, each of our 23 schools develops a site-based school improvement plan every year. The plan outlines the goals and actions the building plans to take throughout the year to improve various areas of performance.
A pyramid of intervention is a tiered approach to prevention and intervention strategies to support students both academically and behaviorally. The pyramid uses a variety of strategies and techniques to help all students stay on the right track. The foundation of the pyramid offers Tier 1 supports for all students. Tier 2 interventions provide additional support for smaller groups of students who need more targeted help. Tier 3 provides the most intensive supports for individual students when Tier 1 and 2 interventions have been unsuccessful. Our schools review and update their pyramid on a regular basis to ensure new strategies are incorporated and all are aligned with best practice.
Our Barnwell community builds positive relationships in order to foster social-emotional and academic growth in all students.
